Throughout this module i have researched tried and tested and read so much infomation it was almost as if a new world has opened for me I have became aware of the benifits and pit falls of design production for print. I have gained so much knowledge to genral aspects ideas and restrictions of the printing process, and came along way from where i've started after all the hard work Im happy with what i've produced. I have gained new software skills on programs such as photoshop and especially adobe illustrater where ive created nets and labels to a professional standard. Most importantly i have gained so much confidence and feel as if i know what and how to approach a printers with my appropriate artwork ready to print. Visting a printers helped me not be so nervous about going to them with my designs it all seemed so daunting when you thought of it but they were so relaxed and human just as i am!  
The way in which ive produced the rebrand for greggs ive taken into consideration there budgeting and not gone too crazy with my designs, although i would have liked to tried out some of the finishing techniques such as flocking, spot varnishes, foil blocking. These really give an interaction element to the designs which i favour a lot about the production for print. The production manual text by ambross/ harris really is a maual the lyout of this book and the techniques and instructions are equally layed out and i have learnt alot from this book i will continue to read upon such texts in the future they really do help.  all in all my designs are to a corporate level and i would be happy to pitch this for greggs i have achieved the luxuary aura through the designs without a arge cost change. How packaging/colour/type can change the first impressions of a place i find interesting and want to apply this knowledge to other products/ companys.
If i was to do this module again i would have researched into further aspects of tea rooms and possibly not things directly associated with this such as tea. Go for something far more quirky and apply humour within my designs lighthearted approach.
I am so happy with the knowledge that  have gained and the fact that i am practising this everyday throughout my design practice just makes me want to learn and know more. I will deffiantly be designing things for commercial print in the future exploring finishes,stocks and how layout can affect the interation element. I believe after this print module i want to design things more professionally and to a higher standard pushing things to a higher standard of design making people design to what people want. 
Mike took us again for this workshop it was mainly aimed at colour and how to make swatches within illustrator and also how to prepare artwork for spot varnish and how to access the pantone colours.

I have actually used and refered back to these notes throughout this module to use proffessional practices hopefully will become second nature.


Looking at different swatch colour pallettes to decide what gradients i should use for  my rebrand. i was thinking of neutrals yet selecting only 2/3 colours i dont want to over complicate i wanted to keep some orange as in greggs bakery and add a few tonal ranges of coffee/tea shades such as light borwn cream mocha colours to remind people its the tea room.

These are all the products which ive designed for this print module i found that once you have the basis for a brand it just needs to be applied to a range of products:

 Above design ready to print onto parcel paper and need to emboss greggs onto the wrapping then will be rolled up into cellophane to keep neat.

 This is the design for a bag it will be made and folded by myself from brown paper most excited about this product!

Cake box net i have used the original net from greggs which they already use i did this to try and keep the cost down as they would be budgeted i have tried to rebrand the shop without strething methods too much trying to show how powerful packaging colours and type can be to affect the first ipressions of a place.

This was a fantastic design which i was really proud of originally i wanted to cut it out of my packaging yet i would need to use the laser cutter and unfortunatly this wasnt available i still want to try and cut it out by hand on one of my products to see what it would look like..
I have learnt as a designer to produce around three different ideas to a client potentially a simple one one which is what they asked for and on budget and one which excels yourself as a designer and probably not within budget but shows what you can achieve with the right funds!! which would be what this is... try and get it up on blog soon!

board layout designs: 
i was experimenting with different layouts to try and tell the story of what design thought procss i was going through. the way i am going to photograph the products will be influencial also which angles and close ups to show the stock/range etc.

Didnt want alot of type on the boards just mainly close ups of photos.

As you can see a little better here: this printer only really does short runs.

inks inside printer: was told could use spot colours in the printer yet would be soo expensive to set up and clean wouldnt be worth while!

This is a bright filter sheet it seperates the cards or where one print job starts and ends- helpful for people who fold the cards or have to count the sheets in a book can easily see the seperation. all this is set up by the computer at the printers

this day at the printers was really useful to me as  it showed and became more real the whole process was from estimating the work to putting up on a calender which was FULL of different design work to be printed. to how each of the machines worked. i found the people who stood on the facctory floor folding all the magazines and boxes the most fascinating how some process are still hand done. the embossing and foiiing was a techical process and relyed on hand eye coordination i hought alot of pressure must go on the worker and the cost of the designs go up when they have to have people folding and applying finishes. the whole experience just shouted out this is getting serious! getting things right in my designs now becomes much more realistic big mistakes big money!
